A FAMILY WINERY

In 1971 Léo Ferré – the well-known French singer and poet – and his wife Maria Cristina Diaz bought this winery where they settled with the whole family and where Maria Cristina and her children still live today.

Right from the start, the family took care of getting the vineyards and around 5,000 olive trees and making them productive. The first harvests were sold in bulk until the early 1990s when the decision was made to bottle and begin marketing on their own.

IN THE HEART OF CHIANTI CLASSICO

San Donatino is located in one of the most suitable positions in the entire Chianti Classico, overlooking the Val d’Elsa to the SW at 420 meters above sea level.

The winery has always been family-run in the best sense of the term, where everything is followed personally with love and experience

The cellar

Followed until the last few days by Giulio Gambelli, Federico Staderini and today by Giovanni Stella, it has a traditional approach where the sign of the territory and the difference of the vintages have absolute prevalence over any form of standardization of the wines. Fermentations occur spontaneously without the use of inoculated yeasts, long macerations and the wines remain on the yeasts for several months. The base wines are aged only in stainless steel or concrete tanks while the premium wine aged in wood.

ORGANIC PRODUCTS AND TASTINGS

The conversion to certified organic began in the vineyard in 2012. In San Donatino it is always possible to have tasting at any time of the year and without the need for a reservation. While in San Donato in Poggio (approximately 12 km) the Agriturismo will allow you to stay pleasantly immersed among vineyards and olive trees.”
